Position Title Associate Director of Alumni Communities
Department Information

The IU Alumni Association (IUAA) brings more than 640,000 IU graduates together to support one another and Indiana University throughout their lives. The IUAA activates IU’s powerful global network through live events, webinars, chartered alumni communities, scholarship programs, and seriously fun traditions. The association is a membership organization that connects alumni, students, and friends through communications, activities, programs, and services. Additionally, it develops and supports volunteer leadership, serves as a voice for alumni as the university evolves, and provides lifelong learning opportunities. The IU Alumni Association Communities team is charged with developing a cadre of well-trained alumni leaders who work to serve Indiana University, the IU Alumni Association, and its alumni via chartered alumni groups throughout the world. The Alumni Communities team works to strategically fulfill the mission of the IUAA via these chartered communities and work to provide engaging personal and professional enrichment opportunities for alumni and friends that help reconnect them back to Indiana University. The IU Alumni Association Communities Department is committed to engaging alumni who embrace a variety of personal experiences, values, and worldviews that arise from differences of culture and circumstance.

Job Summary

Works with the Director of Alumni Communities and the Senior Associate Director of Alumni Communities in developing and implementing an overall management strategy for the following assigned affiliate group communities: the African American Arts Institute Alumni Association, Asian Alumni Association, GLBT Alumni Association, Groups Alumni Association, Latino Alumni Association, and the Neal-Marshall Alumni Association. Assists and serves as alumni liaison for the following integral campus partners: the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs (OVPDEMA), The IU Foundation Vice President for Development and External Relations for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs, The Bloomington Office of Enrollment Management (OEM) and Admissions Office, and the IUPUI Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The management strategy includes best practices in alumni volunteer and board recruitment and leadership development that meet both alumni needs, and IU and IUAA objectives, as defined by university, campus, and alumni group goals and work plans. The over-arching aim is to serve as the subject matter expert while assisting the assigned affiliate groups and campus partners achieve best alignment of efforts to complement the IUAA Strategic Plan, the mission/vision of OVP DEMA (system-wide) and ultimately the IU Strategic Plan.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional level experience developing, implementing, and coordinating programs and events, cultivation of volunteers, and budget administration.

Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Understanding of the role of an Alumni Association and University Advancement; and proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal including a customer service orientation and ability to interact and communicate with a wide variety of individuals. Strong organizational and multitasking skills including ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while consistently meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic, high-stress, fast paced environment with multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment and contribute to, or lead strategic planning and development; and excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and planning skills including demonstrated diplomacy, discretion and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Passion for Indiana University; understanding of the role of an Alumni Association and University Advancement.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

This position will require frequent travel, including nights, evenings, and weekends as needed.
