Position Title Software Engineer

Job Summary

With minimal supervision, performs technical tasks including systems analysis and programming related to the development and support of Enterprise Systems initiatives at Indiana University. Performs analysis, programming, troubleshooting, bug-fixing, tuning, data conversions, testing, documentation, and support of team applications and services.

Collaborates with functional business clients and other teams within the central information technology organization. Develops and maintains excellent relationships with all of these groups through careful consideration and thorough communication on analysis and programming assignments. Works as an effective part of a team providing training, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced staff.

Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and innovation in the development of stable, maintainable, and efficient software. Develops effective interfaces between systems; and assists with management of application releases.

This position is posted at a PA3IT level but may be filled at a PA2IT level depending on the candidate’s qualifications. Although they will be similar, the duties and responsibilities may differ if filled at the lower rank. Please see the Requirements Section below for the qualifications listed for each level.

Required Qualifications

PA3IT Requirements:

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business systems, or related discipline and two years of experience working as a software engineer.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including a customer service orientation and ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Demonstrated creativity in identifying complex problems and finding solutions quickly and accurately; strong attention to detail in communicating technical issues and implementing solutions; and mental discipline in resolving software problems. Strong organizational skills including ability to change priorities as project expands or project needs change; and willingness and ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic and complex environment.

PA2IT Requirements:
