The partner stations in Indiana are public broadcasters which have expanded their news offerings to include statewide coverage, including 1) government and politics, 2) business and economics, 3) energy and environmental issues, 4) health and science, and 5) education. Job Summary

Takes on the complex issue of covering education in Indiana. The content will be created by original reporting from multiple sources and will require independent evaluation of data and information which may contradict each other. The in-depth reports will focus on state government and its impact on local communities across the state. Seeks out information not always available to the general public and then present it in a comprehensible way.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field and two years of professional journalism experience.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Expertise in the dominant political, social, and cultural issues of Indiana; excellence in analysis and interpretation; demonstrated excellence in news judgment; and proven experience in news and public affairs productions. Proven ability to: explain complicated education policy stories to a variety of audiences on radio, on TV and online; and use radio and video production equipment, including camera, light and audio and video editing software. Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Strong organizational and concentration skills including ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure with little supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

Radio/TV on-air experience.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to work unusual and extended hours. Irregular hours may be required. Coverage of events may need to be done at odd hours, including evenings and weekends.

Expect long hours in intense editing/production sessions, often working on many tasks simultaneously. The pressure of deadlines sometimes requires extra effort and long hours of work.

Salary Range $34,000 - $38,000, depending on relevant experience
